San Francisco just got stranger! More than 800 guests flooded the Asian Art Museum for the Gala and After-Party celebrating the opening of Murakami: Monsterized – a new blockbuster exhibition from world-famous Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami. Known for his scary-cute monsters, outsize canvases, and eye-popping colors, Murakami was the Gala’s weirdly lovable and lovably weird honoree. J. Riccardo Benavides took the guests into Murakami’s world by transforming the Asian Art Museum into a fun and colorful shindig. Gala Chairs Sandra and Harry Cheung, Gala Committee members, After-Party Chair Steve Chen, and revelers followed suit, sporting their most fun, rainbow-hued finery and raising well into seven figures for the museum’s education initiatives.
