On September 21, the nonprofit buildOn––whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through service and education––held its annual Better Together concert at The Chapel in San Francisco. The evening featured the music of G. Love & Special Sauce and Fantastic Negrito, and talks from buildOn’s leadership team. All proceeds from the event benefited Bay Area youth who participate in buildOn’s Service Learning Program.

The Misalignment Museum hosted its first donor event on Aug 10th, featuring an exclusive DJ set by Grimes, AI Generated cocktails, AI art, and a Shoggoth dancer. This event kicked off the Misalignment Museum’s new San Francisco location at the Chase Center, home of Thrive City and the Golden State Warriors. On September 6th, dignitaries, arts leaders, and special guests gathered at the American Conservatory Theater’s Toni Rembe Theater for the world premiere opening night of HIPPEST TRIP – THE SOUL TRAIN MUSICAL. The Broadway-bound musical is based on the iconic TV show that brought Black music, dance, and style into every living room in America. Guests included Ahmir K. Jessica Silverman wass thrilled to celebrate the gallery’s 15th anniversary. In its third location with a staff of ten people and a roster of almost thirty artists, Jessica Silverman hosted a pop-up exhibition on the fifth floor of 615 Grant Avenue which opened on August 19. The Big Picnic at Stern Grove marked the 86th annual summer concert series finale on August 20th, featuring The Flaming Lips and serving as a fundraiser for the non-profit behind the 10 free seasonal concerts. Around 500 attendees enjoyed a vibrant day with The Flaming Lips, Alan Palomo (Neon Indian DJ set), DJ Foodcourt, and a unique culinary experience. The Magnificent 10 Days in the Summer

Festival Napa Valley (FVN) has been dubbed the “Best 10 Days in the Summer,” and the 17th season this July exceeded all expectations! The concerts, the dance gala, the fashion show, the luncheons, the patron dinners, and the Arts for All Gala raised a record $4.2 million to fund music education programs, accessible and affordable concerts, and scholarships for young artists. The crowd seemed to have doubled this year, and most tickets were sold out weeks before the events.

It’s such a pleasure to report the highlights and again enjoy the magnificent days and nights of the 2023 festival in words and pictures.

A Barbie film screening party was held at the Historical Cameo Cinema in Napa Valley on August 12th, 2023. The party was a benefit for the Cameo Cinema, and was hosted by Cathy Buck and Karen Caldwell.
